Grocery Outlet Gourmet

Being on a shoe string budget has presented numerous challenges. One such challenge is grocery shopping and creating delicious meals. Cooking for me is like therapy. I love to cook and I love to share what I cook. I've always been that way. Even as a kid in a family of seven I would so enjoy getting to cook dinner for everyone. It was kind of my escape - mostly because if I was in the kitchen cooking I wouldn't have to take on some of the other less appealing chores -like cleaning. That was a task best left to my older sister Heather. That girl can clean like no one I've ever meet. She is also a fabulous cook and an amazing wife & mother.

All this to say that I am never happy with cookie cutter, out of the box (or freezer) meals. And so I'm left trying to find interesting ways to make delicious meals for very little money.  In comes one of my new favorite places to shop! Grocery Outlet Bargain Market!

I have to say that after my first time shopping at a GO I left feeling kind of ripped of by the traditional grocery stores. And I will also admit that it was my own pride and snobbery that kept me from shopping at one sooner than I did. And this was mostly do to misconceptions and a lack of information. I was under the impression that it sold food that was past or nearly past the expiration date or that it would be full of cheap off brand products. Au contraire my friends! This place is full of name brand products, well within their expiration dates and of such an interesting variety. And not just food! I bought a box of laundry soap last week at another store $10.99 and then found the exact same laundry soap at GO for 4.99!! Needless to say I was a little ticked!

But because GO buys surplus and closeout items you never know what your going to get. And this is where the fun comes in. You can't really go in to the store with a shopping list because you just never know if they are going to have anything on your list. So you have to go in with an open mind and a creative spirit and just see what there is see. And that's what I've been doing, attempting to make a delicious meal from the current offerings of my local GO.
