A Touch of Green - In More Ways Than One!

So last week was another “One Post” week. It’s amazing how life has a way of getting in the way of your plans! Although for the most part the interruptions last week were pretty fun! I did get to take a last minute, one day road trip down the coast. I’ll probably write more about that tomorrow. In the mean time I thought I would share one of the projects I’ve been working on. It’s one that I’ve seen numerous times on countless craft blogs and finally decided to give it a go. Its toilet paper tube wall art!
Now I’m sure that without seeing the pictures most people would turn their nose up at the idea of making wall art out of toilet paper tubes. But this project is actually quite stylish and contemporary, and can be used for countless applications! It’s a great inexpensive way to add a little color to a bare space or really liven up a kid’s room. I’ve seen people make huge sunburst mirrors, wall murals and, (as I have) frames to brighten up a dull door corner. It's also a great FREE craft project and a fun way to do a little "up-cycling" with what would normally be tossed in the trash.
So let’s look at what you will need:
  • A bunch of toilet paper or paper towel tubes
  • Glue
  • A pencil
  • Scissors
  • Paper clips
  • Paint & paint brushes
To start you’re going to flatten out you TP tubes and mark ½ inch cutting lines
Next you’ll go ahead and cut all your strips
Once you’ve got a nice big pile of ½ inch strips you’ll start painting them.
Now let me say a few things about painting your strips. First, you can choose to do them all the same color (like I did at home) or you can choose to go multi-colored (like we did at our Jr. High group). Now, if you decide to go with all one color, you can wait until the very end to paint and use spray paint. It’s a little more expensive, but saves a bunch of time. Personally I like to take the time to paint each one individually.
Alright! Now that you’ve got them all painted
It’s time to decide on a layout! Using the paper clips, begin to assemble the pattern.
Once you’ve got something you like start gluing it all together. Again you’ll use the paper clips to hold it all together until the glue dries. Just remember that it needs to be on a flat surface to dry or it won’t lay flat against the wall.
And once everything is good and dry, remove the paperclips and you’re ready to hang it. It only takes a couple little nails to hang because it’s so light.
And after looking at it on the wall all week I decided that it needed a little more - so I added to it and will probably continue to added to it. I kinda like the idea of my vine "growing".
Here are a couple of pictures of the one we made for the youth room at church.

Hope you enjoy.
